Translation Of Passive Voice In Academic Monographs

Translation-Driven Corpora is a monograph in the field of Corpus-based Translation Studies.This book shows the latest developments in Corpus-based Translation Studies,and it focuses on the creation and application of corpora for translation studies.What's more,objectivity is one of the most prominent features of English academic monographs,which also leads to the frequent use of passive voice to avoid unnecessary subjectivity.As a stylistic mark,the passive voice has become a hot topic for linguists,but most of the studies base only on syntactic level;and there are not many deep studies on passive voice in academic monographs.Therefore,it is necessary to find various translation methods that conform to Chinese expression habits.Based on the Chinese translation of Translation-Driven Corpora(excerpts),this translation practice report analyzes the basic classifications and characteristics of passive voice,choosing four translation methods.The passive voice in English is translated into Chinese active sentences,passive sentences,non-subject sentences and judgment sentences.By discussing each example specifically,the translator reemphasizes the method of passive voice translation in the conclusion and explains the difficulties and key points in the process of passive voice translation through the translator's practice,in order to provide useful reference for the translation practice and research of academic monographs in the future.
