A Report On Translation Of Two-Pump,Two-Loop (2p-2L) Cooling System Installation Requirements & Recommendations

In recent years economic growth of China has been undergoing a transformation from factor-driven to innovation-driven.Innovation is inseparable from the development of science and technology which is closely related to technology introduction.During the technology introduction,the Chinese engineers have to read a lot of foreign materials in order to master the design,manufacturing process and installation of the introduced equipment.Therefore,the translation of technical text definitely plays a significant role in the technology introduction.There is a lot of terminology of the foreign technical text despite its accurate language use.And the conciseness revealed from the sentences of the foreign technical text may cause the difficulties for the Chinese engineers.So during the translation process,to select the proper translation theories and techniques for the aim of transmitting the accurate technical information as well as ensuring the smooth-going comprehension of engineers is of paramount importance.The translator wrote this report on the basis of the English-Chinese translation of Two-Pump,Two Loop(2P-2L)Cooling System Installation Requirements &Recommendations which an engineer from C Company entrusted to the translator during the internship in last September.Before the translator started the translation,he had already confirmed the intended purpose of the Translation Task which was determined by the initiator.In the preparation before the translation,the translator analyzed the textual features of the ST(Source Text)and chose the three rules of Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance for the translation according to the intended purpose hereinbefore.During the translation process,the first version of the TT(Target Text),after the self-check implemented by the translator,was completed based on the term list which was established through searching the parallel texts and seeking the advices from the initiator.And after days of reviewing by the initiator,the final version was completed and ultimately was accepted by the initiator.This report,using three rules of Skopos theory as the theoretical reference and taking Two-Pump,Two Loop(2P-2L)Cooling System Installation Requirements &Recommendations as the research object,has summarized several translation methods and techniques appropriate to the ST through conducting a contrast of first version and final version.This report comprises 5 parts.The first part gives an introduction of the translation task and explains the necessity and the essentiality of the task.The second part describes the translation process consisting of the major tasks andpriorities of three major stages,that is,before,during and after the translation.The third part is an overview of Skopos theory and its three rules,and the guidance meaning as well as the function of evaluation of the three rules is detailed in this part.In the fourth part,the translation methods and techniques adopted in the translation process are elaborated and analyzed through contrasting the first and final version of the representative TT under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory.And the last part is mainly about a self-examination of the translation process.
