Don't Cheat Me is written by American writer Jack May.It tells the story of a series of love and hate occurred by heroine Nora and some people with special abilities.Various rhetorical devices, daily dialogues and cultural information have been contained in the novel. In the process of translation, the translation material is taken from the first three chapters of the novel,Functional Equivalence Theory is chosen as the guidance theory. The corresponding translation strategies are adopted to reproduce the content, style and characteristics of the original text.Based on Eugene A.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, the report analyzes the typical cases from the translation version of the first three chapters of the original work from three aspects: semantic, stylistic and cultural equivalence. At the semantic level, translation should be carried out in line with semantic equivalence. In translation, the translator has minimized the loss of semantic content and adjusted the translation accordingly,so the translation is more acceptable to the target readers. At the stylistic level, the target language items corresponding to the stylistic characteristics of the original text are selected according to the principle of stylistic equivalence,so as to perfectly reproduce the rhetorical effect of the original text in translation. The translation maintains the same style as the original text.At the cultural level, cultural information of the original text should be conveyed in translation. So the target readers can fully understand the connotation of idioms and slangs in the original text and obtain the same cultural experience as the source readers.Based on the analysis of typical cases and flexible application of translation theory, the closest and most natural equivalence can be found in the target language.Meanwhile, the readers of target language and source language can roughly get the same response.By analyzing and solving problems in translation, this report hopes to provide reference value for the translations of similar novels in the future.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 31...
