A Practice Report On Interpreting For The Presentation Brief Introduction To American Political Thoughts

This practice report is based on the interpreting experience for the English instructor Mr.Kenneth West of China Geosciences University Great Wall College who gave a 45 minutes presentation on Brief Introduction to American Political Thoughts in December 24^th,2019.The interpreter takes the basic models for consecutive interpreting and the comprehension formula of the French scholar Daniel.Gile as theory guidance.In the preparation stage,the interpreter did mock interpretation and designed a series of note symbols to reduce the note-taking efforts.During the interpreting process,the interpreter adopted skills of omissions,the transformation of part of speech,conversion of affirmative and negative expressions,identification of subjects and topics to help convert of information and improve the production.After completing the interpreting task,the interpreter analyzed the problems such as misinterpretation and missing interpretation and proposed suggestions on how to allocate efforts rationally.There are five chapters in this report.The first chapter is Task Description,which introduces the source of the task and its requirements.The second chapter is the Process Description,which specifically describes every link in the interpreting process.The third chapter is Preparations before Interpreting,which shows the details of contacting the speaker,getting the outline,collecting related information and establishing the reference vocabulary list.The last chapter is the Conclusions,which summarizes all the interpreting techniques and experiences of the interpreter.Through this interpreting practice,the interpreter has more profoundly realized that cross-cultural communication is based on rich and broad knowledge.The interpreter needs to accumulate and broaden her knowledge so that she can deepen understanding,allocate effort reasonably,and convert the information skillfully during the interpreting process.She should seize any practicing opportunity,improve her interpreting skills and develop good psychological quality.
