Published in 2003,Nights in the Sun is a juvenile literary work, which was written by Australian author----Colin Bowles. The novel is widely acclaimed for largely restoring the social and living conditions of Broome in the 1920 s and capturing the emotional and psychological changes of the14-year-old boy Sam.Since the novel is based on the culture of Australia, the translation of it is of great significance for promoting cultural communication. On the other hand,as a branch of children's literature, juvenile literature has certain significance to the growth of teenagers. The translator selected the first seven chapters as her E-C translation material,as well as completed the translation practice report. The translation practice is divided into three parts.Firstly, the translator read through the original text and a few parallel texts, and at the same time, found out the translation difficulties in the text, and prepared auxiliary tools.Since teenagers are the main targets of this novel, their psychological characteristics, expression, comprehensive ability as well as cultural differences are considered during the translation process. Then, the translatorproofread and revised the translation for many times,as well as did a post-translation reflection. The characteristics of the text are reflected in several aspects.Firstly, using cultural-loaded words for detailed characterization to reflect the teenagers' meticulous observation.Secondly, repetitious expressions are used to portray the psychological changes.Besides, monologues expressed in complex sentences reflect the gradual development of teenagers' logical thinking.Fourthly, the author uses numerous tropes to reflect teenagers' image thinking. And finally, heuristic titles are used to set suspense and attract readers. In response to the above text features, the translator used different translation techniques and methods flexibly to make the translation more suitable for teenagers. In the process of translating cultural-loaded words, the translator used literal translation with annotation and literal translation with illusion to make the translation more attractive;in dealing with the repetitious expressions, the translator used amplification to make the psychological description vivid,so as to achieve function equivalence;in dealing with complex sentences, the translator adopted the methods of splitting, merging and preposition, striving to make the expression more in line with the language habits and psychological characteristics of teenagers under the condition of realizing semantic equivalence;in trope translation, the translator used conversion, amplification as well as omission,so as tomake the translation conform to teenagers' language habits;when translating the heuristic title, free translation is used to attract readers and inspire them to think.Through this translation practice, the translator realized that the translation techniques should be chosen based on the perspective of teenagers and text characteristics. In this way the author's intention can be vividly conveyed and the translation could be more in line with the language habits as well as reading needs of teenagers.
