Adverbials are one of the most important syntactic elements in Chinese.Because of the complexity of Chinese adverbials themselves,adverbials become the most important and difficult point for the second language learners to acquire Chinese.Based on the Beijing language and culture university HSK dynamic composition corpus and the corpus collected by the author in daily teaching,this paper discusses the acquisition of Chinese adverbials by English native speakers on the basis of contrastive analysis of Chinese and English adverbials.Firstly,this paper compares Chinese adverbials with English adverbials.In terms of definition and classification,Chinese adverbials are basically the same as English adverbials,and the difference between them is mainly reflected in word order.On this basis,the paper analyzes the usage and errors of various kinds of adverbial modifiers of native English speakers,and summarizes the types of errors of Chinese adverbial modifiers of native English speakers.In terms of adverbials of time and adverbials of negation,degree,repetition,range and relevance,native English speakers have high frequency of use and errors,indicating that these two kinds of adverbials are the difficulties for native English speakers to acquire adverbials correctly.Combined with specific examples of errors,this paper concludes that the types of errors of native English speakers in adverbials are redundant,incomplete,improper use of adverbials and word order errors.This paper also analyzes the causes of errors and puts forward corresponding teaching Suggestions.The causes of native English speakers' adverbial errors are mainly the negative transfer of native language knowledge,the excessive analogy of target language knowledge,the neglect of the limitations of target language rules and the influence of learners' learning strategies.Therefore,in teaching,it is necessary to strengthen inter-language comparison and intra-language comparison,pay attention to effective output,and promote native English speakers to form a correct sense of Chinese language.
