This translation report is based on Chapter 6-7 of The Teacher by Peter Faraday,an unpublished autobiography about his life and his attitude towards life. The source text features as its humorous narration, real and plain tone, and moderate difficulty in comprehension. While translating English to Chinese, the translator finds that there are many barriers in translating v.-ing form in non-finite verbs, which enhances difficulties in understanding the real meaning of the source text.To deal with v.-ing forms, the translator classified these v.-ing forms into post-modifier,reasonable adverbial, accompany adverbial and subject according to different grammatical components. At last, the translator summarized five methods including addition, omission, conversion, inversion, division to increase the readability of the target text.To present an acceptable and comprehensive target text to Chinese readers, the translator adopted Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory as theoretical framework. The report focuses on the reflection and summary of the translation process of the source text. The translator hopes to have some reference significance in further translation of v.-ing forms in non-finite verb in autobiography.
