A Study Of Interpreting Strategies On Business English From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Recent years have witnessed interpretation researchers' increasing and extensive attention to the press conference of China's minister of commerce.In view of the strong international influence of the language used in the conference of ministers of commerce,it is deemed necessary for interpreters to take appropriate interpreting approaches in the press conferences.Moreover,the quality of interpretation is also a key factor in the smooth progress of the conference.In this regard,it is of great value to study interpretation.Skopos theory believes that interpretation is not merely a conversion of words,but a cross-cultural communication behavior with a specific purpose.Accordingly,except for language itself,interpreters should also take a variety of social and cultural factors into account so that they can flexibly interpret and effectively communicate without deviating from the meaning of the source text.The press conference of the Minister of Commerce in 2019 is selected as an example in the thesis.Based on the three principles of Skopos theory,this thesis studies how the interpreters at the press conference accurately grasp the actual intention of the speaker and the content of the speech as well as what kind of strategies are adopted for interpretation to achieve effective communication.Through research,major interpreting strategies are summarized by the author including addition,omission,combination,conversion of voice,etc.According to the results,it is believed that the idea of Skopos theory,which is characterized by conveying the substance and intention of the source text,has reference value.And in terms of interpreting practice,the strategies summarized in this thesis help interpreters interpret flexibly and thus achieve the communicative purpose of the source text.
