| Kazakhstan today is a book co-written and edited by experts and scholars in various fields of Kazakhstan,and is recommended for publication by the Scientific Council of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan(KazISS).The book aims to present the reader with an overall image of modern Kazakhstan,highlighting the role of Kazakhstan in the international community and discussing the politics,economy and social life of modern Kazakhstan.The chapter three of this book mainly introduces Kazakhstan’s international status and relations with other countries.This report is made based on the English-Chinese translation practice of sections ten to sixteen in this chapter.Pondering over the lexical level and the syntactic level,the author of this report analyzes and sorts out some difficulties in the source text.Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory,semantic translation and communicative translation are comprehensively applied and some specific translation techniques are discussed resorting to case studies.At the lexical level,literal translation,addition,omission and conversion of parts of speech are mainly used for different lexical difficulties.At the syntactic level,the author of this report mainly discusses how to use linear translation,inversion and division to deal with long sentences and complex sentences;In addition,aiming at sentence with passive voice,the author of this report adopts conversion of voice to convert English sentence with passive voice into Chinese sentence with active voice.It is certain that the author of this report also uses other methods to make the translated version accurate and smooth in addition to the above translation skills due to the fact that translation is a complicated process and the translation of a sentence can not only involves one method.Through this translation practice,the author of this report understands that mastering certain political terms is helpful to the translation of this source text.Apart from general translation principles and skills,translators should accumulate more knowledge of relevant disciplines and know about their linguistic characteristics. |
