This report is based on the E-C translation of The Fifth Risk which was written by Michael Lewis and published in October 2018.Belonging to political text, the chosen material elaborates the functions and operation mode of the United States Departments of Energy,Agriculture and Commerce. The first chapter is chosen to be translated, which exposes the problems in the United States Department of Energy since Trump took office.Through statistical analysis,it is found that there are 140 attributive clauses in the first chapter.Attributive clauses are very common in English, but are never used in Chinese, making the translation of attributive clauses from English to Chinese difficult.Due to the differences between English and Chinese, the translator should pay more attention to the meaning and form of these clauses so that the target readers have the correct understanding of the source text. Therefore, functional equivalence theory is chosen to guide the translation of attributive clauses. In order to deal with the difficulties of translating attributive clauses in the source text, four effective translation strategies are adopted, including pre-position,antecedent repetition, blending and conversion of grammatical functions. This report aims to explore practical translation strategies of attributive clauses, hoping to provide practical value of reference for the translation of similar texts.
