With China's overall national strength and international status rising obviously,the international community is paying more and more attention to China.Popular science texts are practical and purposeful,and their translation become very important.The book International Water Scarcity and Variability: Managing Resource Use Across Political Boundaries focuses on the problem of water resources shortage and variation.The translator is responsible for translating the first chapter and the second chapter of the book.In this practice report,the translator analyzes and summarizes the translation of popular science texts.In order to ensure the quality of the translation,the translator uses reference books and network resources,refers to papers and books in related fields,determines professional terms,and avoids translation errors caused by misunderstanding.In addition,the translator analyzes the cases from the aspects of word,sentence and text according to the characteristics of specialized words and complex long sentences in popular science texts,and explores the translation methods used in the translation of popular science texts under the guidance of the coherence rule of Skopos theory,such as literal translation with annotation,parts of speech conversion and information supplement.Through this translation practice,the translator finds that the coherence rule of Skopos theory has guiding effect on the translation of popular science texts.To become a qualified translator,one needs to combine relevant theories,skillfully use translation skills and carry out a large number of translation practices.
