Translating Academic Texts Into Chinese Based On Adaptation Theory

This thesis studies the adaptation process of academic text translation with reference to Chinese translation of Stylistic Approaches to Translation(excerpts).Taking use of text analysis and corpus-based method,this thesis also explores how translation adaptation is reflected from both micro and macro perspectives.This thesis consists of four chapters: The first chapter is the overall introduction to the research,including research motivation,research questions,methodology,research innovation,research significance and introduction to the source texts.The second chapter is literature review and theoretical basis.The third chapter is case analysis,which is proceeded on lexical,syntactic and textual level.The last chapter is research conclusion,limitations and suggestions.The research finds that translating academic text is a dynamic process requiring a sense of adaptation which determines the quality of translation.In specific,the translation adaptations are as following: Frist,at the lexical level,English pronouns are often translated into signified nouns and the‘soft verbs’ into verbs with real action meaning.At the syntactic level,English passive voices are usually translated into active voices and long and complex English sentences will often be cut into several segments.And at the textual level,logic in English are usually weakened and four-character will be properly used to improve the formality of translated text.
