A Translation Report Based On The CAT+MT+PE Mode

This report is about a translation practice based on CAT+MT+PE model.The author translated Chapter 6 of the book Localizing Strategies for Global E-Business written by Nitish Singh,which mainly explains how to localize international websites effectively from the perspective of both technology and strategy.With the continuous development of science and technology,MT and CAT tools have gone through a leap forward,and the CAT+MT+PE mode has also been widely adopted by translators or translation companies.This book features in medium and long sentences,and professional terminologies with high repetition rate,therefore,the author carried out the translation practice based on this mode.The whole translation process is taken as a translation project using knowledge of project management the author acquired during her postgraduate studies.This report is divided into four main parts.The first part gives a brief introduction to the translation task,including the main content,characteristics and author of the ST,the reasons for choosing the ST,the target readers,the CAT+MT+PE model and its background knowledge,etc.The second part is the detailed description of four processes including initiating process,planning process,executing process and closing process.The third part is case analysis from two perspectives.In terms of MT errors,the author summarized new MT error types based on previous studies and the results of this translation practice,including errors at the lexical level,at the syntactic level,at the discourse level,and other errors.The author specified some of the most frequently appeared error types in this translation practice and provided corresponding PE methods and suggestions for the improvement of MT systems,hoping to make some contributions to the improvement of PE,MT and the development of automatic PE software.As for the CAT+MT+PE model,the author analyzed its advantages and disadvantages based on this translation practice,and puts forward corresponding improvement suggestions.Finally,it is a conclusion of the whole translation practice,including findings and limitations.Through this translation practice,the author hopes to improve her translation and PE ability,accumulate more website localization strategies and technical knowledge,and at the meantime,contribute to the wide spread of website localization knowledge.
