The so-called "estimated" words refer to the words that may be used by speakers to infer subjective possibilities and express estimated semantics in a certain contexts. As "estimated" words are extremely common in our daily communication,so these words are often seen or used by foreign students. The "estimated" words commonly used include "may, maybe, possible, probably, about, estimate, presumably" and so on,which the literal meaning of the words is the explicit;and also include "or so,left, about, more or less,or,consistent, always" and other implicit words that require contextual support to indicate the estimated semantics. This article will studied these kinds of"estimated" words based on previous studies, from the perspective of Chinese as a foreign language. The main part of the article is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the analysis of the characteristics of these words "or so,about, more or less, probably, approximately, maybe, and presumably" from the perspectives of semantics, syntax, and pragmatics and the different meanings in the estimative context, based on the corpus in the Modern Chinese Corpus of the National Language Commission.Chapter two mainly collects the error corpora of the HSK dynamic composition corpora of Beijing Language and Culture and the intermediary corpus of Jinan University,as well as the error corpora in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. And then classifies the error corpora of thees words "or so,about, more or less, probably, approximately, maybe, and presumably"and analyses the reasons for errors.Based on the analysis above, the forth chapter will gives some suggestions which are helpful for foreign students to understand and flexibly use the "estimated" words, and helpful for compiling teaching materials.
