2020 was destined to be an extraordinary year.In early January,coronavirus broke out in Wuhan,and then developed into a large-scale epidemic that spread across the country.On March 18th,due to the spread of the epidemic in the UK,the British government decided to close all primary and secondary schools to avoid a spread of larger scale.This forced all Chinese teaching to transition from offline to online;the change also posed new challenges for Chinese teachers in the UK.After discussion,the Confucius Institute at Oxford Brookes University in the UK decided to choose Zoom as its preferred online teaching platform.In the process of online teaching,I found that some traditional teaching methods and exercises were not suitable for online teaching based on the Zoom platform,and could not meet the teaching goals of Chinese courses.Through teaching observation,teacher discussion,and teacher self-reflection,I found that students in online classrooms have problems with both a low speaking rate and difficulty with writing Chinese characters At the same time,poor interactivity in online classrooms is also a problem for online teaching.Therefore,I've conceptualized the idea of changing Zoom-based teaching design in order to meet the needs of students.This paper will compare the similarities and differences between traditional and long-distance teaching of Chinese as a foreign language;highlight the characteristics and functions of the Zoom platform;and focus on how to use the Zoom platform to make up for the lack of interactivity in long-distance Chinese teaching in order to achieve the teaching goals of Chinese courses.This dissertation is divided into five parts:The first part is an introduction.It will introduce:the origin of the selected topic,research object,research purpose,research method,research significance.The second part is a research status report.This will organize the theses involved in the research content of this article,and make a systematic introduction to the status of research in this area.The third part is the background of remote Chinese teaching design represented by Zoom.This will explain teaching materials and teaching methods of Zoom-based long-distance learning.The fourth part is a case study of Zoom-based long-distance Chinese teaching design of the Confucius Institute at Oxford Brookes University.This chapter introduces the idea that after offline teaching in the UK was converted to online teaching due to the epidemic,some of the original offline teaching methods were not suitable for online teaching and classroom interaction was drastically reduced.To solve this problem,the author participated in various online and offline teaching seminars and tried to use new teaching tools and methods to increase the interaction between teachers and students as well as among the students themselves.The author takes the second part of "the higher price the better quality" as an example,combined with the "Production-oriented Approach" of teaching design proposed by Professor Wen Qiufang.The fifth part summarizes reflections and suggestions on Zoom-based long-distance Chinese teaching of Oxford Brookes University.It makes suggestions to increase teaching efficiency.Finally,according to the content of the research,I will issue a prediction about future performance of Zoom-based teaching at OBU.
