Redundancy is an important feature of natural language and it is quite common in interpreting.Just as what the past researches indicate, moderate amount of redundancy helps countervailing the disturbance brought by noise and facilitates the information to be precisely and completely transmitted to another, which enables our daily communication and interpreting.Nevertheless,Over redundancy results in overly long interpreting time and chaotic and messy interpreting, which needs to be avoided to the information transmission and reception efficiency. This thesis chooses the mock conference named Covid-19 and the Refugee Issues held by Ian Newton as the example for case study.Through thorough analysis,it has been found that throughout the author's E-C interpretation, there are a lot of over redundancy, which includes, for instance, the repetition of the same words, synonyms and multiple fillers, thus lowering the efficiency of information transmission. Thus, the author hopes that this thesis can explore the causes of the over redundancy and the coping strategies towards it so as to solve this issue. This thesis first reviews the past literature and then sets the standards for over-redundancy.Then it analyzes the concrete examples and finally concludes that over redundancy has three major causes, including listening problems, lack of background knowledge and relevant preparation before interpreting and, finally, the illogical output. This thesis proposes three coping strategies, which mainly includes improving the interpreter's listening skills, being more well-prepared before interpreting and ensuring that every sentence interpreted is logical and does make sense or slow down while dealing with complicated notions and ideas.
