The Chinese language and English are hugely different in presenting logic.Chinese sentences tend to have loose structure, and the logic is often hidden in the context. In contrast,English sentences seem to emphasize form and present logic through well-knit sentence structure.Due to this obvious difference between Chinese and English, when doing Chinese-English interpretation, interpreters must make explicit the logic in Chinese so as to ensure the accuracy and fluency of the interpretation and make it convenient for the audience to understand the meaning of the source language.Through analyzing the recorded interpreting of Lian Ping's speech in an open course, the author finds that the target language does not have a clear logic. The reasons for the ambiguity of the logic include the failure to conduct a thorough analysis of the source language logic, the failure of the notes to effectively indicate the source language logic, and a deficiency in English proficiency. To address the problem, the author puts forwards some solutions, including to improve the distribution of efforts during listening and analyzing by making more efforts to analyze the source language logic,to get better able to analyze the logic of Chinese through practice of Chinese-to-Chinese retelling and summarizing,to optimize the note-taking system through designing a set of symbols presenting logical relationship and improve the effectiveness of notes through exercises, and to enhance the interpreter's English proficiency by increasing input. The author hopes to improve the quality of Chinese-English consecutive interpretation through targeted exercises, and hopes that this article could be helpful to interpreting learners who have similar problems.
