The translation materials selected by the translator are chapters 1 to 11 of the short story I Know My Love.It tells a love story that took place during the “gold rush”in Australia in the 1850 s,reveals the oppression to civilians in the dark period,and praises the advanced spirit of young people.The story has not yet been published in Chinese and the translator finds that English words often needs to be converted to another Chinese word class in E-C translation.Therefore,the translator takes word class conversion in literary translation as the research object and takes the reception theory as the theoretical basis in order to explore the conversion of word classes and get some findings or its limitations.This report mainly adopts literature review and case analysis to establish the research theme of the translator,to conduct research and analysis on this topic,to understand the research status of this topic,to classify and summarize the problems encountered in translation practice and to find out the solutions.The translator selects typical cases and analyzes the reasons why different types of English words are converted into parts of speech in Chinese in E-C translation and the effect after the conversion.The translator finds that word class conversions are frequently applied in translation of literary works and the reception theory can evaluate the quality of the translation from another perspective and can improve the aesthetics of the translation.This acceptance of aesthetics also reflects in the smallest unit of translation-vocabularies.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly describes the significance of the task and the language features of the source text.Chapter 2introduces the translation process,including pre-translation,while-translation and revision.Chapter three is the framework of the theory,and introduces the definition of the reception theory and the significance for the report.The fourth chapter depicts the significance and principles of word class conversion,and discusses the application ofword class conversion in literary translation through case analysis.The fifth chapter is a summary of the translation practice,including the findings,as well as the existing limitations.
