Science fiction as a literary form of originated in Europe in the second half of the 18 th century. However, the development of science fiction in China has been relatively slow and the study of the translation of it has been scarce. The practice of translating science fiction into Chinese can not only provide examples for translation studies of science fiction, but also promote the development of Chinese sci-fi literature. As a science fiction,The Adventures of Sidekick Shang describes the incredible sci-fi events experienced by the protagonist “Jared”,revealing the contradiction between the development of science and identity ethics. This report is completed based on the E-C translation of Chapter One to Chapter Ten excerpted from The Adventures of Sidekick Shang.Guo Jianzhong puts forward three criteria of sci-fi translation, namely, literariness, scientificity and popularity.Focusing on the study of sci-fi translation,he suggests some sci-fi translation strategies, such as “translating meaning”,“restructuring” and “reorganization”,among which “translating meaning” includes translating conceptual meaning, contextual meaning and collocative meaning, etc.Guided by such three criteria of sci-fi translation, this report aims to explore and verify the translation strategies of science fiction. And it finds that Guo's theories can play a guiding role in the process of sci-fi translation. What's more, using the translation strategies that he recommends can further enhance the literariness, scientificity, popularity in the translation.
