Employment is the foundation of people's livelihood,and it is a key approach for every adult to participate in society and realize the value of their lives.However,the mentally disabled people are in a weak position in the fierce employment situation because of their disabilities,and their employment rights are hard to be guaranteed.For solving these problems,some organizations are founded to provide job opportunities for mentally disabled people.One of them is Lanzhou Fan Chen An Xiang Special Education Center.Different from traditional nursing institutions,Fan Chen An Xiang Special Education Center focuses on better engage in the mentally disabled people's employment service,and help them achieve stable employment as well as integrate into society.In this paper,the protective employment service of Fan Chen An Xiang Special Education Center was studied through participatory observation and semi-structured interview based on the author's intern experience in Fan Chen An Xiang Special Education Center and social support theory and empowerment theory.The basic situation of the centre,the basic situation of the service object,the current situation of the protective employment service,as well as the practice and effectiveness of the professional social work intervention were introduced and analyzed in this paper.Besides,the author intervened in an employment service of a mentally disabled teenager according to the steps of taking the case,estimation,intervention,evaluation,closing the case,and making a return visit,and the whole process continues for almost one year.During the intervention period,the author made more than ten times of home visits and case interviews.From the perspective of strengthening mentally disabled people's employment ability and sociability,the effective procedure of social work intervention in the service for a mentally disabled teenager was researched by comprehensively applying empowerment theory and community service model theory,as well as the techniques of empowerment theory in the process of providing employment service.The cognitive ability,communicative ability,working skills,and living skills were enhanced.In addition,links for obtains social resource and the social support network were built for the teenagers.Most of the goals good results were achieved.
