Social Work Involved In The Spiritual Comfort Of The Elderly Left Behind In Rural Areas

In 2013,the Ministry of Civil Affairs released the data in the "China's Aging Career Development Report",which attracted the attention of the author.After the completion of the national statistics in 2012,there were about 50 million left-behind elderly people in China,accounting for 25.8% of the total number of elderly people.This means that one out of every four elderly people is a left-behind old man.However,compared with urban left-behind elderly people,the rural residents living in the area are relatively backward in terms of facilities,environment and resources.Their daily life is boring,and their children have been working outside for a long time.The elderly have not been able to take care of their children for a long time.People have less social interactions,and gradually become depressed and anxious.It reduces the quality of the elderly in their later years and also affects the health of the elderly.This paper is based on the social work professional perspective,focusing on the spiritual comfort of the elderly left behind in rural areas.The left-behind elderly in H Village,Sunan Yugu Autonomous County,Gansu Province,is the subject of research,using literature,observation and in-depth interviews to stay in the village.The elderly conducted research and analyzed the causes of the spiritual comfort of the left-behind elderly in the village from three aspects: self,family and social reasons.It also assessed the needs of the spiritual comfort of the elderly in the H village,mainly including the needs of family,the demand for social interaction,the demand for cultural entertainment and the demand for education.Through the summary of the related needs of the spiritual comfort problem,the author also developed relevant social work group activities,and also carried out six group activities for the eight team members.The main content of the activity enriched the life of the elderly living in the rural areas;To enhance the spiritual comfort of the old people;improve their ability to interact with each other,further expand the social circle,improve the way of communicating with their children,and enhance the confidence of members' lives.At the end of the group activities,the team members were supported and satisfied,the group goals were basically achieved,and the team members were more satisfied with the group.The group activities also achieved very good results.
