At this stage, under the background of increasing aging, the population of empty nesters in our country is rising rapidly, and the phenomenon of empty nesters at home is becoming more and more common. In rural areas, especially those in poor areas, the lives of elderly empty nesters are not effectively guaranteed.Suicides among elderly people occur frequently and the suicide rate remains high, which has aroused social concern. In recent years, with the continuous development of the economy and society and the continuous introduction of China's welfare guarantee policies, the material living standards of empty-nest elderly in rural areas have been improved to a certain extent, but spiritual support is often overlooked. This is also a common problem in the empty nest elderly group.Based on a survey of the living conditions of empty nest elderly in Y Village,Lianhua County,Jiangxi Province, this study explores a series of problems in the spiritual support of empty nest elderly in rural areas. It is mainly manifested in the monotonous spiritual life of the elderly in the empty nest, the lack of self-spiritual support, the lack of attention of the children to the spiritual support of the parents, and the lack of spiritual support at the organizational level. The spiritual support of empty-nest elderly in rural areas in China, especially in economically backward rural areas, has become a weak link.It requires the cooperation of all aspects of society and the intervention of social work. This study uses the guiding role of the theory of superior perspective and social support theory, and uses group work to intervene in the mental support of the elderly in the empty nest.Through group work, discover and excavate the advantages and resources of empty-nest elderly, transform the perspective of empty-nest elderly, increase self-confidence,and increase interest in continuous participation in social activities. In addition, through linking resources, build a mutual assistance network among the empty nest elderly, guide them to form a sense of solidarity and mutual assistance, expand the social relationship network, and thus empower and increaseenergy. In addition,we are committed to improving the ability and awareness of the elderly in the empty nest to meet their needs for spiritual support, and to improve their self-support level.Through group activities, empty nest old people can face up to their own strengths and view the role change with a positive attitude, take the initiative to strengthen exchanges between peers, expand social support networks, and to some extent improve the level of self-support.It can be seen that intervening in the mental support of the elderly in the empty nest through group work methods has achieved certain results. However, the shortness of time and lack of resources have hindered the establishment of a long-term mechanism for the group and the establishment of a long-term mutual assistance network. Finally, the author evaluated and reflected on the practical work of group work involved in the spiritual maintenance of the elderly in empty rural nests.Discussions were held on the aspects of individuals, families, grassroots organizations and society to alleviate the problem of spiritual support for rural empty-nest elderly and maintain the long-term and effectiveness of services.
