The Influence Of Salary Difference Based On Household Registration Discrimination On Happiness

Discrimination in the labor market exists in a lot of countries.Discrimination could happen on the base of gender,and caste etc.It causes both inefficiency and inequality in the social economy.Just as the discrimination in other countries,the household register discrimination seriously ginders the process for migrants of being integrated into urban life.It not only makes the migrants suffer a lot from differential treatment in wages gaining,but also forms the labor market segregation.Therefore,doing some research on the household register discrimination will contribute a lot not only to the development of discrimination theory,but also to the institutional in China.Based on the data of China Family Panel Studies in 2012,this paper employs Oaxaca decomposition method to analyze the discrimination effect.of household registration system on urban-rural income inequality.Using ordered choice model to construct the equation of life satisfaction.Combined with counterfactual analysis to intuitively show life satisfaction missing which from household register discrimination.The results are as follows:firstly,household register discrimination leads to income inequality,rural household labors are significantly lower than urban household labors in the rate of return to education and work experience;secondly,the wage gap between urban labors and rural labors is mainly caused by the differences in individual characteristics,household register discrimination makes a contribution of 16.14%to wage gap,education and work experience are the important cause of urban-rural household discrimination in income;thirdly,income has significantly positive effects on life satisfaction,but age,education,marriage gender and relationship are also indispensable to life satisfaction;fourthly,after excluding household register discrimination,the social income inequality decreases to a large extent,and overall happiness increases.It is recommended that government should take relevant measures to reduce and eliminate the discrimination to migrant workers.Government also should increase the investment in rural basic education,the relationship between labors and labor market need rational allocation.When focused on the improvement of income,government should pay more attention to social satisfaction and the level of social welfare.This paper puts forward some advices to solve household register discrimination.
