ObjectiveInvestigate the current situation of abuse tendency of disabled elderly caregivers in the old-age care institutions, analyze the related factors of the abuse intentions of the caregivers, explore the relationship between the caregiver's abuse tendency and fatigue, coping styles, positive feelings. To provide some evidence for the prevention and intervention of the abuse of the disabled elderly in the old-age care institutions to promote the physical and mental health of the disabled elderly and to guarantee the quality of life of the disabled elderly.MethodsA cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted.A convenient sampling method was used to investigate the current situation of the abuse tendency of disabled elderly caregivers in 11 old-age care institutions in Guangzhou, and to analyze the factors affecting the abuse tendency of caregivers. The on-site questionnaire survey included: general demographic data of the caregiver,work-related information, abusive tendencies, fatigue, coping style, positive feelings, and self-care ability of the disabled elderly.A total of 160 questionnaires were distributed in this study,7 invalid questionnaires were excluded, and 153 valid questionnaires were finally collected. The recovery rate was 95.6%.The collected data is sorted and entered, and statistics are performed using SPSS17.0 software.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS21.0 software. The composition ratio, mean and standard deviation were used for statistical description.Data analysis was performed by t test, analysis of variance,Spearman correlation coefficient and logistic regression analysis.Results1.44.4% of the aged care institutions disabled elderly caregivers had a tendency to abuse,of which 41.8% were potential abuse,2.6% were risk abusive, and the total abuse score was(2.34±1.73).2.The overall fatigue, positive coping, negative coping and positive feeling scores of disabled elderly caregivers were(4.42±2.71),(21.69±7.11),(8.20±5.34)and(37.31±6.80).3.Multiple regression analysis showed that the degree of education, qualification certificate, the time of working in old-age care institutions, the number of elderly people taking care of each day and positive feelings were the influencing factors of the abuse tendency of the elderly caregivers in the aged care institutions.4.Relevant analysis showed that the abuse tendency of caregivers was positively correlated with overall fatigue, physical fatigue, and negative coping(the r values were 0.161,0.204 and 0.196).The abuse tendency of caregivers was negatively correlated with positive coping, overall positive feelings,self-affirmation,and life prospects(the r values were-0.200,-0.274,-0.276 and-0.258),and the difference was statistically significant(P(27)0.05).Conclusions1.Many of the caregivers of the disabled elderly in the old-age care institutions have a tendency to abuse.2.Factors such as education level, qualifications, age of geriatric care, the number of elderly people to be cared and positive feelings can affect the occurrence of abuse.Caregivers who do not have a qualification and care for a large number of elderly people are more likely to have a tendency to abuse, while caregivers who work long hours in older care and have a higher level of education have a lower risk of abuse.3.Long-term fatigue, high levels of physical fatigue and negative coping styles will increase the risk of abuse by caregivers.Positive coping styles and positive caring feelings will help caregivers reduce their burden and reduce the incidence of elder abuse.
