The Image Of China Constructed By International Academic Discourse

The construction of international discourse power is an important topic for a country to enhance its international influence.Academic discourse is an important part of international discourse,which is characterized by objectivity,science and depth.With the development of China's economic strength,the international community pays more attention to China.Who controls the international academic discourse power of China research,and what are the characteristics of China's image.Only by clarifying these issues can we spread the voice of China,tell the story of China and enhance China's international discourse power.Therefore,this essay guided by the constructivism theory,selects Foreign Affairs,International Security,International Relations of the Asia-Pacific,Asian Perspectives and The Chinese Journal of International Politics as research objects,picks up 199 articles related to China topic in the period of 2013-2017,uses content analysis and data analysis methods to understand the image of China constructed by international academic discourse and the logic behind it.In the second,third and forth chapters it uses four indicators: focus field,research topic,author and article citation to analyse China-related articles.In the fifth chapter it concludes the characteristics of China's image constructed by international academic discourse through using content analysis,in-depth case study and comparative analysis.This essay finds that American journals are more likely to construct a rising and challenging China,while asia-pacific journals show a multi-participationChina,and China's journals are more likely to show a responsible China.It also found that American discourse strongly constructs China's image in the field of academic,and realism is the mainstream paradigm to analyze China's problems.Finally,this paper puts forward some suggestions for the promotion of China's academic discourse power based on the research results.
