With the deepening of education reform,compulsory education teaching quality has been gradually rising in recent years.School conditions and teachers' quality have been improved and government investment has increased.However,the number of schools in rural areas and the number of students is gradually dropping,especially the problem of boarding schools constructions in rural areas is eminent.Because of imbalanced distribution of education resources and relatively backward economy and culture,physics teaching in rural areas has always been the weak link of new curriculum reform.New curriculum standard proposes that education should adapt to the rules of students'mental and physical development,advocating paying more attention to the students.Middle school students,especially students in remote rural areas have low enthusiasm for physics study,lacking of motivation.The special circumstances in the countryside have certain bad influence on their study.This paper will choose a rural middle school as the research subject to make a case study.The main content include teaching conditions,school teachers,students'learning attitude,learning habits and effective condition and so on,with an aim of getting to know the current situations of physics education in rural areas and finding solutions of these problems.The case study of this paper belongs to the integrated case.The subjects include students,teachers and the headmaster.The data is analyzed by adopting both quantitative and qualitative research methods.First of all,as for quantitative research method,we invite 120 students from Grade 8 and Grade 9 to fill in a questionnaire about physics learning situation,which mainly includes four dimensions,involving the basic situation,learning attitude,learning habits and affection.Then,SPSS20.0 is used to analyze the collected data.Secondly,as for qualitative research method,we invite six students,two physics teachers and the headmaster to make a semi-structured interview.Interview outline is based on the questionnaire.The interview data is helpful to perfect the case study results.Finally,by combining the results of both quantitative research and qualitative research,we will have a discussion about the conclusions of this case study.According to the research results,we can make a summary to the physics education situation of S middle school from three aspects.1.As for students,they have low interest and enthusiasm in physics study.On the contrary,they show hatred towards learning,but great interest in physics experiments.2.As for physics teachers,they have comparatively high pressure but generally low salary.Boredom and slack are often together with them.Teachers' personal quality needs to be improved.3.As for school,the physics experiment teaching condition is poor,with incomplete experiment equipment,so students have no chance to do experiment.Besides,professional physics teachers are in great need in this school.
