The professional degree education is not only an important way to foster specialized talents with high level in our country,but also the necessary part of the academic degree and postgraduate education.On April 13,1996,the report on setting and running of the master of education was approved through the fourteenth meeting of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.The report said that by setting of the master of education in the professional degree education expounded the need of the teachers with high level in the field of the elementary education in China.It not only promoted the development process of teachers' professionalization in the elementary education,but also optimized the structure of the elementary education teachers in our country.What,s more,it adjusted the structure of the professional degree education in China,and made Chinese degree system further perfect.At present,China has entered the decisive stage of the all-round construction of well-off society.So the master of education in our country is faced with hitherto unknown development opportunities and challenges.Worldwide,the United States is one of the most developed countries,and the scale and quality in its high education are second to none.With a long term development of the master of education,the United States has explored a set of perfect education system.There are a large scale and high quality in American master of education,and it fosters a large number of talents for American education.By researching on the fostering of American master of education,we can understand the various stages in depth.To explore its advantages and disadvantages,it can provide some practical experience and reference for our country,which is conducive to the development and improvement of the master of education in China.This study uses the methods of literature study and comparative analysis to explore the fostering of the master of education in Yunnan University and University of Maryland,College Park.,focusing on the admission,fostering mode and school year,course offered,teaching method,funding,conferring of degrees.Among them,the admission includes the admission requirements and method,and the funding includes the fees and the financial aid.Through the comparison of the two universities to find out the differences and similarities in the fostering of the master of education,this study summarizes and analyses their respective strengths and weaknesses.Finally,this study has drawn five enlightenments.First,in the admission,we should pay attention to the moderate flexibility and strong professional pertinence,and the university should have more autonomy.Second,the university should not only strengthen the study of the basic theory courses,but also pay attention to the practical courses.And the university should consider the students' individual differences and professional interests.Third,the university should seek actively multi-channel financing source,and take diversified forms of the financial aid.Fourth,in the conferring of degrees,to ensure the quality of fostering,we should be appropriate to improve the evaluation criteria.Fifthly,by making full use of regional advantages,the university should open to the world,and actively attract international students to expand the international reputation.
