Novel teaching is an important part of Chinese reading teaching in high schools.Several problems,including standardization of teaching contents,odd interpretation of text and weird teaching processes,however,have arisen in its teaching contents and methods.These problems owe largely to teaching utilitarianism,as well as teachers' professional quality and teaching ability.Aiming at novel teaching and its problems,this paper synthesizes several contemporary researches and analyzes some typical cases,trying to explore an effective method of close reading to improve novel teaching in high school.Based on text,close reading emphasizes on the importance of novel language.It also embodies students'subjective consciousness,which encourages them to approach the text.Further more,application of close reading in teaching process,for teachers,may improve their appreciation ability of a novel,thus raising their teaching ability.From the perspectives of the language,plot,narration and auxiliary materials in a novel,this paper elaborates the usage of close reading,hoping to provide a new method of novel teaching in high school.
