Wu Rulun(1840-1903),a representative of the Tongcheng School in the late Qing Dynasty,was also an important educator in the late Qing Dynasty.Wu's family was poor,and studied hard.In the late Qing Dynasty,with the influx of Western civilization,the Tongcheng School,famous for its ancient texts,was severely impacted.More and more people advocated plain and easy-to-understand vernacular Chinese.Under this situation,Wu Rulun picked up the responsibility of rescuing the Tongcheng school.He inherited the development of the Tongcheng School,brought Western learning into ancient texts,broadened the content of the ancient texts,and disseminated ancient Tongcheng texts through college education to train many ancient Chinese.Although he was the beneficiary of the imperial examination system,he humbly learnt from abroad ideas,traveled to Japan in the east,studied the school system,and compiled it into the "Dong You Cong Lu",setting off education reform in the country and attempting to save the country through education.Wu Rulun insist the educational tenet of “taking China's learning as a foundation and vigorously advocating Western learning”.He attached importance to middle school and western learning education.He also clearly put forward the educational ideas of "abolishing imperial examinations","sheng bi zi","women's education","detailed development of morality,morality,and so on",and implemented it in his specific mastery of Lotus Pond Academy and the educational practice of establishing the Tongcheng Academy.His educational philosophy has promoted the development of education in the late Qing Dynasty and greatly promoted the modernization of education in the modern anhui.Although influenced by the times,some of its viewpoints have certain limitations,but his education claims are of great significance to our current curriculum reform and education reform.
