The Real Case Of Reconstructing The Life Meaning Of Families That Lost Their Own Child

Between 1970 and 1980,the Birth-control policy that enforced strongly by China government affected most of Chinese family,till now,one-child family has become the main stream family in China.However,essentially,one-child family is a risky family.Along with the the illness and fatal accident happening during a child's growing up,the number of the families that lost their own adult child has risen up.According to the statistics made by Nation's health and plan council,it's predicted that by 2050,there will be 11 million families that lose their own child in China.The issue of families that lose their own child has already become a topic that the society pays attention.How the society can help those families is not only society responsibility but also a criterion to judge how harmony the society is.The pain of the parents that lose their own child has multi layers,among them,the most important,is that they feel their life has lost its meaning and goal.The feeling of life meaning is that when people experience some event in their life,the degree of how they can feel life's meaning and direction.It can make individual feel the value and direction of life,and guide the individual to pursue feeling of existence and value as a goal.Under the background of Chinese traditional culture,children is the meaning of parents' life,losing their own child make the original life meaning of those families collapse.Reconstructing life meanings means a lot to the parents to step out of the darkness and integrate into the society.In this thesis,the writer picks a family they met during their visit to community,taking symbol interaction theory and role theory as guidance,via qualitative research strategy,using method of character research,deeply analyze and summarize the family's inner mind progress and the effectiveness of the community work intervene into the family.By exploring the mind process of this family in this case,based on the hypothesis of “family is first”,the writer analyzes how to reconstruct the life meaning of the family that loses its own child.The research find out: the family that loses its own child experiences three periods after the heavy attack of their life meaning: denying period,pain period,and reconstructing period.The family that loses its own child has the need and ability of self-saving,self-helping and self-strengthening.The writer starts from the parents,conduct deep analyze to the parents' perceiving and behavior in different period,attempts to find out the key elements for parents to step out of the pain and integrate into life again.From the view of symbol interaction,help the parent reconstruct positive life meaning,retrieve family function,step out the difficulties,embrace the future life.
