Since the reform and opening up for nearly 40 years, with the development of China's economy, urbanization has also made obvious achievements. At present,China has entered the stage of rapid development of urbanization, and urbanization in the central region has entered the stage of rapid development along with the implementation of the strategy of "the rise of the central region".However, compared with the national average, there is still a certain gap,and it still lags behind the national average and the eastern and northeast regions for a long time. There are also a series of problems in the process of urbanization in the central region. After the National New urbanization Development Plan 2014-2020 was issued in 2014,the central provinces have also launched a new urbanization development plan in line with the development of their own provinces one after another, pointing out the direction for the development and construction of new urbanization in the central region in the future. This article mainly takes the central region urbanization as the research object. The first part is the introduction, which describes the background, significance, research methods and literature review. The second part is the basis of this paper, including the discrimination of related concepts, the theory of population migration, the theory of urbanization and the theory of new urbanization as the theoretical basis of this paper. Then through consulting relevant data to explain the population and economic and social development in the central region. The third part mainly expounds the development and trend of urbanization in the central region since 1978.At the same time, through the comparison between provinces and different regions of the country, five kinds of characteristics are obtained.Including the acceleration of population urbanization in central China in recent years, the level of urbanization has lagged behind the national average for a relatively long time, the quality of urbanization is too low than the level of urbanization, and there is no significant difference in the level of urbanization between provinces. The net outflow of population to the eastern region is dominant; In the fourth part, according to the previous research, the paper analyzes the problems and causes of urbanization in the central region, such as thequality of population urbanization is low,the process of population urbanization is restricted by the household registration system, the urbanization of agricultural transfer population is relatively lagging behind, the urbanization of land is faster than the urbanization of population, and the system of cities and towns is not perfect. The fifth part is the conclusion and some problems existing in the process of the new town construction in the central region, and puts forward some appropriate solutions and suggestions.Because of the particularity of the geographical position of the central region, and the relatively large population base, the economic development is relatively backward. In the process of promoting new urbanization,we should take measures according to the local conditions, plan rationally, adhere to "people-oriented",effectively protect the elements of traditional regional culture, develop towns with obvious regional characteristics, and promote the development of tourism.Accelerating the development of urban agglomerations and strengthening the links between cities and urban agglomerations within urban agglomerations;Speed up the extensive industrial development model to intensive transformation, vigorously support small and medium-sized enterprises and township enterprises, attract investment, attract talent; To speed up the reform and improvement of the household registration system,to promote the equalization of basic public services,so as to improve the quality of population urbanization and promote the economic development of the central region.
