In recent years under the general command of adjusting the economic development model,China's industrial structure has been continuously heightened and highly efficient. The mode of production has shifted from labor-intensive to capital-and technology-intensive,and from inefficient to energy-intensive intensive types. The important factors that promote the upgrading of industrial structure are scientific research level and the cultivation of innovative talents. In the dynamic process of upgrading China's industrial structure, higher education as a main function of teaching and research has become a new driving force for upgrading industrial structure.Obviously,it is of positive significance to analyze the current situation of education resource space distribution and its influence on the upgrading of industrial structure,to reduce the difference of regional economic development and to solve the economic structural transformation. The dissertation mainly discusses the influence of the spatial distribution of higher education resources on the upgrading of industrial structure, and introduces regional innovation performance as an intermediary variable to test the intermediate utility of regional innovation performance.First, with reference to the measurement method of industrial agglomeration degree, locational entropy coefficient is used to measure the level of higher education agglomeration in 31 provinces and autonomous regions. From the perspective of regional innovation input and regional innovation output, the superefficiency DEA method was used to measure the innovation efficiency of 31 provinces and municipalities in China.Based on the connotation of industrial structure upgrade, the comprehensive evaluation index system for industrial structure upgrading has been constructed from four aspects: upgrading of technology structure, upgrading of leading industries, upgrading of product structure, and upgrading of human capital. The panel data factor analysis method was used to reduce the dimension of the observation data of 31 provinces and autonomous regions from2006 to 2015,and the comprehensive score of the industrial structure upgrade level of each research object was obtained. The results show that there is spatial spillover effect of industrial structure upgrade level, regardless from the perspective of the country or the regression results of the eastern, central and western regions. The higher education agglomeration all contribute to the upgrading of the industrialstructure, and the degree of influence from high to low is the eastern, central and western. Finally, using the panel data of 31 provinces and cities in China,a panel quantile model was established to discuss the impact of higher education agglomeration level on the upgrading level of industrial structure under different conditions. Then use regional innovation performance as an intermediary variable into the econometric model, and establish a three-stage regression model to study the mediating effect of this variable in the eastern, central and western regions, and compare it with the regression results when no regional innovation variable is added. The research shows that there is a long-term equilibrium relationship between education agglomeration, regional innovation performance and industrial structure upgrading. The level of higher education agglomeration and regional innovation performance all contribute to the upgrading of industrial structure.Regional innovation performance is partially mediated in eastern and central regions, but there is no mediating effect in Western.
