Teacher's Mobility Within The Profession:The Role Of Starting Salaries

In order to promote the balance of education and reduce education differences between urban and rural areas,it is the main point to let the teacher "going down and staying".Therefore,the key to solving this problem is to discuss the reason behind the teacher mobility.Based on the "Modeling Teachers Career Choice" and the data of a longitudinal survey from Gansu Survey of Children and Families(GSCF,2007),this paper mainly analyzed the income from the first job of teachers to explain the mobility.Display of results based on discrete dependent variable regression(including Probit binary response,Poisson count estimation)as followed:First of all,as the objective of the mobility of teachers' profession character,whether it depend on flow of teachers' report or through the calculation result of difference between the teaching experience and teaching years,the effect of first job income on it is non-linear and "inverted U-shaped".Specifically,only when the income of the first post is higher than 468 yuan,does the probability of the later flow decrease with the increase of the income of the first job.If the first job's income is less than 468 yuan,even if the income is increased,the transfer probability cannot be reduced.Moreover,the effect of teachers' first job income on the duration of their first job is also non-linear and "U-shaped".Specifically,whether teachers are voluntary transfer or involuntary transfer,its first job duration has a certain relationship with its first income:the overall trend,the first income of voluntary transfer have great effect on the duration of the first job than involuntary transfer teachers;However,on the right of u-shaped inflection point,the first job income has a greater impact on the duration of the first job of involuntary transfer teachers.By examining the connection between the Gansu rural teachers' starting salaries and the Job transfer behavior,this paper has a reference value on construction and support of teacher that in rural area.Moreover,it has guiding significance for the implementation and development of the current "Three Supports and One Assistance" policy and"Teachers serving rural China" policy.
