The 21 st century is the era of science and technology.To educated people with science and technology and develop their talents is playing a significant role in the improvement of core competence of our society.In primary education,to help students to learn and think to accumulate knowledge is the first step to cultivate talents.Science teachers are one of the keys of science education.Their profession levels will have important effect on the success of science education.This essay has made a comprehensive and systematic research of the contents,characteristics,structures and the paths of developments of science teachers' professionalism.By studying on current research results,it develops a framework to analyze the professionalism of primary schools science teachers,which is to analyze their professional knowledge,education theories and teaching skills.Based on previous research and combined with the characteristics of actual situation of local primary schools,a questionnaire and an interview outline are introduced to this study.According to data collected from questionnaires,it analyzes on the development of professionalism of science teachers in Panyu,Guangzhou.From the results of interviews,it finds out the factors to affect their development.In the end it gives suggestions to improve professionalism of science teachers.Below are major findings of this essay.Firstly,science teachers in Panyu,Guangzhou have good professional knowledge development in general.However,there are significant difference between teachers' academic qualifications,teaching experience and education backgrounds.Also,imbalanced development between scientific knowledge,educational theories and teaching skills is another issue that should be focused on.Secondly,professionalism development is affected by both internal and external factors.The level of attention school pays to the science subject and rational allocation of science teachers are two major external factors.Supervision from school administration and related measures are secondary factors.Science teachers' rational planning for professionalism development and self-learning and improvement are internal factors.Thirdly,to achieve sustained and steady development of professionalism among science teachers in primary school,related policies and systems should be adjusted and improved.Schools and education administration department should pay more attention to science teaching to encourage science teachers being involved positively in development of professional knowledge and skills.To enhance the vocational training,an efficient study platform for science teachers is suggested to be built up.
