Class size is an important index for the allocation of school education resources,and it is also an important factor affecting students' social interaction.To explore the social interaction of students in different class size under the background of the general existence of large classes in primary and secondary schools in China,which is of great significance to promoting students to enjoy a fair and quality education.This article uses qualitative research methods,homogeneity sampling is adopted to identify21 teachers and 15 students in three schools in D County ZD primary school,DL primary school and MZ primary school as major research objects.Through in-depth interviews and classroom observation,we collect empirical data and try to describe the influence of different class size on students' social interaction.Firstly,This paper analyzes the realistic predicament of primary school students' social interaction under the background of big class size,such as the communication space is small and narrow,the way of communication is single,and the content of interaction is excessive rational.From the two dimensions of formal communication and informal communication,we discuss the complex relationship between class size and social interaction.In terms of formal communication,class size will have a differentiated influence on students' communicative objects,frequency of interaction,interaction mode and personalized communication.Students' informal contacts are mainly happened outside the classroom,revolve round non-academic content,the objects,contents and existing problems of informal communication are also different due to the different class size.Secondly,the paper explores the mechanism of class size affecting students' social interaction from three aspects of seat arrangement,classroom discipline and teaching atmosphere:The number of people directly affects the way of arranging seats,while seat arrangement limits the range of students' contacts;Classroom discipline is one of the class collective norms,the more class size,the greater the difficulty of class discipline management,which affects the formation of communicative norms.The atmosphere of teaching laid the foundation ofcommunication,The greater the class size,the more obvious the difference of communication atmosphere.The classroom communication atmosphere of large class was much better than that of small class.This paper summarizes the characteristics of the social interaction of students in different class size from three perspectives:Selectivity and repeatability,homogeneity and heterogeneity,cooperation and antagonism,and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of different class size to students' communication.Finally,we draw the conclusion that the ideal class based on benign social interaction is about 30 students.And put forward suggestions to promote the social interaction of students:Standardize the order of running a school and actively control the phenomenon of large class;The research on class size should transform the form to content,and pay attention to the great influence of class size on communication;Attaching importance to the role of teachers and making teachers the leaders of students' social interaction;And in the current situation of the class,we should actively improve the teaching mode and strive to achieve social interaction based on large class teaching.
