In order to improve the fair opportunities for getting higher education and to open the longitudinal flow channels for the students of the disadvantaged groups,in recent years,the government has continuously implemented the special program of college entrance examination for key universities to enroll the outstanding students in the rural,remote,poor and ethnic areas.Compared with other college students,students in the special program are situated in a double weak position from both family background and academic foundation.The research on academic performance of this special group after entering key universities has essential theoretical and practical significance.The main purpose of this research is comprehensively and precisely present the academic performance of the students in special program after entering universities,and further provide some countermeasures and suggestions to promote excellent academic performance and development of this group,thus achieving their social mobility.Regarding students as the main subject,this paper constructs its theoretical framework by following the "input-process-output" model and analyzes the academic performance as well as the internal differences of academic performance among the students in the special program from the three dimensions,learning behavior,learning achievement and learning results.Based on the survey data of 499 undergraduates in two universities,the following conclusions are drawn.First,the input of learning behavior and the learning results of students in the special program are above the average,and their academic performance ranking increases with grades.However,some students in the special program face certain academic difficulties after entering universities,which are manifested in the failure to pass the course examination and CET-4,which can not meet the basic academic requirements of the school.Second,the academic performance difference between the students in the special program and the normally enrolled students is mainly reflected in the learning results.Compared with those of the normally enrolled students,the passing rate of course exams,thepassing rate of CET-4 and the ratio of gaining the scholarship of students in the special program are relatively low,demonstrating their relatively poor academic standards,English level,and academic and employment competitiveness.Third,the academic performance of students in the special program shows difference in gender,students' origin,universities,and subjects.Specifically,the academic performance is relatively poor for boys and the students from the western region,or with a major in science and engineering.The students in the special program shows different characteristics in their academic performance of the different levels of key universities.In order to help students in the special program successfully complete their studies and achieve excellent academic performance,universities should establish a mechanism to monitor the academic performance of students in the special program and provide them with targeted academic guidance and assistance,students in the special program should strengthen their curriculum learning,English learning,expanding learning and ability oriented learning.
