Narrative means that children are organized to describe people, things and things in the order of events or time in the context of disengagement.Studies abroad have shown that the way in which narratives are triggered affects the narrative abilities of young children, while the research on the narrative abilities of young children in different ways is relatively rare. Therefore, this study aims to compare the similarities and differences between children’s narrative and free narrative ability,to understand the narrative ability of children in different narrative materials, and to help improve the narrative ability of children.Using the experimental research method,a total of 24 children aged 4-6 years in a kindergarten in X city were selected to test each child’s narrative ability and free narrative ability. The research starts from the three dimensions of narrative structure, narrative evaluation and narrative sequence, and combines data analysis with children’s case corpus discussion to compare the similarities and differences of children’s narrative ability under different narrative materials. The study found:(1)the narrative structure.Similarities: Children use narrative structures in narratives and free narratives, which generally include narrative structures such as events, figures, and evaluations, but lack of quotes and conclusions. The difference: young children focus on the narrative structure of the two narrative activities.Young children describe more events when they look at narratives, and more time and place information in free narratives. The development trend of children’s narrative structure ability is similar, and the overall trend is first to decline and then to rise.(2)Aspects of narrative evaluation.Similarities: Young children are not good at using the "comparative","adverb","state" vocabulary to evaluate events when looking at narratives and free narratives;the development trend of children’s narrative evaluation ability is similar, and the overall development is slowly rising.trend.The difference: the ability of children’s free narrative evaluation is significantly higher than that of children’s narrative evaluation. The total vocabulary and vocabulary type used in children’s free narrative is significantly higher than that of the narrative;the children use more when viewing narratives.Intention "words" express the purpose, will, and use more "emotion" vocabulary to express emotions in free narrative. There are significant differences between children’s narrative evaluation and free narrative evaluation ability, which are mainly influenced by children’s life experience and empathy ability.(3)Similarities in narrative order: young children use similar methods to express narrative order when viewing narrative and free narrative.Generally, the words “time conjunction” and “acceptance relationship” are used to express the time relationship and inheritance relationship of the story. The words "causality" and "situational state" type of vocabulary are used less to express the logical relationship and state of the story. With the increase of age,the children’s narrative ability has improved, and the performance has increased significantly in the 5-6 years. In addition, there are still phenomena of non-smooth expression and digression in the narrative of young children. The expression of the subject is not clear and the sentence component is lacking. When children look at the narrative of pictures, they are more likely to be fluently expressed. When they are freely narrative, they are more likely to have unclear expressions.Based on the above findings,in order to enable the preschool teachers to improve the narrative ability of the children more specifically, the research puts forward the following suggestions: First,in the narrative activities of the pictures, the teachers should focus on guiding the children to describe the time of the accident and describe the characters. The inner state;Second, the teacher should improve the child’s ability to complete the story, pay attention to guiding the child to tell the beginning and end of the story, learn to use the quotes in the narrative.
