The 21st century has put forward new requirements for talent cultivation.Students need not only to master professional knowledge and skills,but also to have a high level of learning ability,especially high-level thinking ability to solve complex problems.General education is a kind of education which integrates humanities,Social Sciences and natural sciences.Its purpose is to cultivate students'sense of participation,critical spirit and comprehensive accomplishment on the basis of subject integration.However,due to misunderstanding of general education between teachers and students,it has not attracted enough attention,resulting in backward teaching methods,single assessment methods and low-level learning by students.STEAM,as a new form of interdisciplinary integration of education,integrates knowledge in science,technology,engineering,art and mathematics,aiming at improving students'ability to solve practical problems by exploratory learning,project-based learning and design-based learning.STEAM education,which is consistent with the purpose of general education,can provide a new way for general education.Based on this,this study constructs STEAM teaching mode to enable students to improve their learning level,develop higher-order thinking and higher-order ability in the interdisciplinary comprehensive task solving.The main research contents are as follows:1.Read the literature of general education and STEAM at home and abroad,and basically grasp the research status at home and abroad.2.Understanding the connotation of general education,STEAM connotation framework,PBL teaching method,and clarifying the core elements of STEAM teaching mode and the theoretical basis of STEAM teaching mode;3.Combining the constituent elements of STEAM teaching mode and the core elements of STEAM teaching mode,the STEAM classroom teaching mode suitable for this study is constructed.4.Applying the constructed STEAM teaching model to the teaching practice of undergraduate general education course,it proves the role of STEAM in improving learning level and classroom effect.Through the above research,it is found that STEAM education is effective in improving students' learning level and attitudes and general education classroom teaching effect.Under STEAM classroom teaching mode,students can promote their higher learning ability of analysis,evaluation and creation,and improve their ability of solving problems,decision-making,critical thinking and creative thinking by integrating knowledge of various disciplines.
