At the National Conference on Undergraduate Education in the New Era in 2018,Minister Chen Baosheng pointed out that"the plan of higher education is based on undergraduate education,and undergraduate education is unstable and shaky.Talents training is the basic function of universities,and undergraduate education is the root and foundation of universities.Undergraduate education is the core of talent cultivation and the frontier of education development in the new era.Under the trend of accelerating transformation and upgrading of higher education institutions,the gap of undergraduate education teaching quality has gradually expanded,resulting in a serious imbalance between the output quantity and quality of graduates,unable to meet the talent demand of national core competitiveness in the new era.Colleges and universities urgently need to take measures to fill this gap and provide high-quality innovative talents for the country.Under this demand,the freshman seminar has quickly entered the field of vision of University researchers because of its unique teaching concept and new teaching mode,and has been taken as the breakthrough point of undergraduate teaching reform and incorporated into the core curriculum system of the school,in order to explore a new teaching mode of cultivating innovative talents,and to promote the quality of undergraduate education.However,in the implementation of freshmen seminars,schools,teachers and students did not give them due attention,which made it difficult to achieve the curriculum objectives of stimulating students'academic interest,problem awareness and innovation spirit.Therefore,through exploring the teaching concept and practice of seminar course for freshmen,this paper hopes to make a good fight for undergraduate education and teaching,and provide some reference for the improvement of the quality of talent training in schools.The theoretical discussion of freshmen seminar is carried out from two aspects:one is the basis of legitimacy,the other is the reflection of existing university courses,the transformation of the traditional teacher-centered teaching paradigm,and the important bridge to effectively link up secondary education and higher education;the other is the theoretical basis.The small group theory and scaffolding teaching theory provide a powerful basis for this paper.And from the emergence,gradual formation and improvement of freshmen seminars abroad and the analysis of the texts and problems of freshmen seminars in China are summarized.To study the teaching concept of seminar for freshmen,this paper starts from five aspects,including student-centered,integration of teaching and research,cultivating students' discriminative thinking,mutual benefit of teaching and learning freedom.Among them,the student-centered teaching concept should be the core of freshman seminar,and complement each other with the other four teaching concepts.It runs through the whole teaching process of freshman seminar.The research on the teaching practice of freshmen seminar is mainly based on the empirical investigation of the current situation of freshmen seminar in H University.Through the analysis of the results of the five dimensions of pre-class investigation,basic information,classroom interaction,classroom harvest and curriculum feedback of freshmen seminars,it is found that due to the inadequate publicity of the curriculum,the introduction of the course selection platform is less;the teaching place is relatively closed and the teaching method is relatively single;the content of the curriculum is obscure and difficult to understand,and the assessment method is one-sided rigid,which leads to the relatively narrow channel of curriculum information acquisition and classroom teaching.Problems such as inactive interaction between teachers and students,low classroom evaluation,and unsatisfactory feedback arise.Based on this,this study suggests that schools should insist on improving the platform for selecting courses and providing more kinds of courses;teachers should flexibly use the teaching form,strengthen the frequency of classroom interaction and reduce the difficulty of curriculum content,and improve the development path of curriculum assessment mechanism.In the future,the construction of seminars for freshmen in other universities should be combined with the actual situation of running schools,coordinate all aspects of educational resources,and work together at the school,teacher and student levels to construct seminars for freshmen,so as to make efforts to cultivate innovative undergraduate talents and improve teaching quality.
