It is widely accepted that primary school plays an important role throughout one’s whole life.A solid foundation in primary school will contribute to students’ learning and development in the future, and may even affect their whole life.Pupils usually form habits at a very early age, thus a desirable study habit developed in childhood can be firmly maintained for a lifetime. Therefore,to resolve the problem of potential students in primary school is of great significance. The position and responsibilities of head teachers in school education determine that they should play an active role in guiding and transforming potential students in a positive way.The relationship between teachers and students is a kind of psychological relationship formed during educating and teaching in daily life, including emotional cognition, behavioral response and so on.It is based on the educational objectives and is formed during direct communication(teaching and learning)between teachers and students with their unique identity and status.Teacher-student relationship changes with the change of educational concept and system, the improvement of teachers’ quality as well as the gradual strengthening of students’self-awareness.Generally,potential students are distinguished by score and ranking.Though elementary schools have cancelled the public ranking of grades among students after the promulgation of the Standards for the Management of Compulsory Education Schools, the problem of potential students still exists.According to the survey of this study, students with good grades are aware of their rankings, while part of potential students deviate from their performance orientation.Herein, the main purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between potential students and their head teachers, and whether the head teachers have new targeted strategies for stimulating potential learning of potential students. In this study,310 senior students of Y primary school in Wuhan were selected as the research objects using the questionnaire on the relationship between head teachers and students in primary school.Excel was utilized to categorize the data, and SPSS was used for correlation analysis, regression analysis and so on.The relationship of status quo between senior students and their head teachers in primary school,teacher-student relationship and students’academic performance was investigate in detail. The characteristics of the relationship between potential students and head teachers were obtained through comparison. The results are as follows:1 Currently, the relationship between senior students and head teachers in Y elementary school is in a harmonious state. There is more communication rather than conflict between teachers and students.2 The intimacy between potential students and head teachers is the worst, there are remarkable differences in intimacy between potential students and head teachers in terms of gender and grade.3 Through correlation analysis,we found that intimacy dimension was positively correlated with academic performance, while avoidance dimension was negatively correlated with achievement.4 In the regression analysis, only the intimacy dimension passed the significance test. The intimacy dimension has a significant positive impact on academic performance. The higher the intimacy, the better the academic performance.5 Teacher-student relationship,as a non-intellectual factor, plays an important role in students’ academic achievement.Based on the results of this study, this paper puts forward relevant suggestions on how to effectively improve the relationship between teachers and students and how to transform potential students in a positive way from the perspective of head teachers.
