With the development of society,science and technology,the term"emotional quotient"(EQ)has been increasingly mentioned by both scholars and ordinary people.Psychologists define EQ as a collection of comprehensive abilities,including self-cognition,emotional control,self-motivation,resistance towards setbacks,coordination of interpersonal relationship.General Secretary Xi Jinping mentioned in the 2019 School Ideological and Political Theory Teacher Forum that"Ideological and Political Courses are the Key Courses for Implementing the Fundamental Tasks of Li De Shu Ren".Morality and rule of law course at middle school is an important channel to cultivate and develop students' ideological and moral qualities,and EQ as well.As the implementation of the "New Curriculum Standards" deepens,schools,though having realized the importance of developing students'abilities,still cannot avoid some teachers simply imparting knowledge to students in classroom,thus ignoring development of students'EQ or abilities in other aspects.Meanwhile,middle school students are at a special stage of life and have special psychological characteristics.In spite of a high plasticity,they are emotionally unstable and weak in willpower.This has decided the feasibility and necessity of providing EQ education for students at middle school.This paper mainly studies EQ education provided through morality and rule of law course at middle school at an attempt to provide references for effective development of students'EQ through classroom teaching of morality and rule of law course.This paper consists of four sections:Section 1:Introduction.This section mainly expounds on the research questions,theoretical and practical significance of this research,major innovations and deficiencies.Section 2:The overview of the junior high school morality and rule of law courses to cultivate students'emotional intelligence.This part mainly discusses the connotation of emotional intelligence,the relationship between emotional intelligence and IQ,and the main content of emotional intelligence training.This is the theoretical basis of this article,and the following are all based on this research and discussion.Section 3:Necessity of EQ development via middle school Ideological and Ethical Education.This section points out the necessity of development of students' EQ via the classroom teaching of middle school Ideological and Ethical Education,and attempts to arouse the public awareness of the importance of this issue.Section 4:Junior high school morality and rule of law courses to cultivate students'emotional intelligence problems.This part mainly discusses the problems existing in teachers' consciousness and emotional intelligence,teaching content,teaching methods and teaching evaluation.Section 5:Basic approaches to develop students' EQ via middle school morality and rule of law courses.Based on the above discussions and analysis,this section summarizes approaches to develop students' EQ in accordance with characteristics of middle school students and middle school Ideological and Ethical Education,hoping that these approaches can provide references for future research.
