| Self-enhancement is a bias for individuals to seek positive self-recognition,highlight their sense of superiority,avoid negative self-evaluation,and selectively focus on and exaggerate themselves’ positive aspects.It includes different manifestations,such as better than average effect,control illusions,self-handicapping,selective acceptance and refutation,unrealistic optimism,over-declaration and self-service attribution and so on.This study used 475 college students as subjects,and explored the influence of college students’ self-improvement on interpersonal relationships through literature research,questionnaires and interviews.The study is divided into two parts: The first part is a questionnaire survey on self-enhancement and interpersonal relationship among college students.It not only analyzes the situation of self-enhancement and interpersonal relationship,but also studies the influence of self-enhancement to interpersonal relationship.The second part is an interview about self-enhancement of college students,in order to explore the manifestations of self-enhancement and the effect of self-enhancement on the factors of interpersonal relationship.This study reached the following conclusions and inspiration through questionnaires and interviews:(1)Self-enhancement is common among college students.College students with grades have a significant effect on self-enhancement.while,gender,profession,urban-rural differences have no significant effect on it.(2)The interpersonal relationship of college students is generally at a lower level,and the grade,gender,major,and urban-rural differences of college students have a significant impact on interpersonal relationships.(3)The performance behaviors of college students’ self-enhancement include self-interest attribution bias,selective acceptance and refutation,positive display of their advantages,self-centeredness,and pretending not care.(4)College students’ self-enhancement has a significant impact on interpersonal relationships,and students with high self-enhancement have worse interpersonalrelationships.Because college students with high self-enhancement lack of respect and understanding,tolerance and trust to friends in their interpersonal relationships,which are not conducive to the development of interpersonal relationships among students.(5)In order to promote the development of individual interpersonal relationships university and family should pay attention to the education of self-cognitive to college students.Individuals should also strengthen self-management and avoid excessive self-enhancement.what’s more,college students,under the process of interpersonal communication,should carry out self-reflection actively,optimize interpersonal cognition,learn to listen to others’ opinions and respect others. |
