Cooperative learning is one of the learning methods advocated by the New Curriculum Reform.Some experimental results show that not only can cooperative learning improve academic performance of the students,but also promote their interpersonal communication,self-confidence,the ability of cooperation and other non-intellectual factors and emotional development.At present,cooperative learning has become the teaching means many front line teachers keep eyes on.In all kinds of open classes,such as research,presentation and observation,it's common to see students sit together in class.But in the course of daily teaching,what is the implementation of this way of learning?How do teachers and students view cooperative learning?Is there an extension of cooperative learning outside the classroom?This paper carries on the elaboration from four aspects.The first part is the analysis of origin,significance,methods of this research based on the objective needs of the new curriculum reform,the internal needs of the development of high school students and the author's reflection on teaching practice.In addition,the research status of cooperative learning at home and abroad is combed and analyzed.The second part is theoretical support,expounding the connotation,basic factors and theoretical basis of cooperative learning in and out of class.The third part investigates and analyzes the present situation of cooperative learning in M Senior High School in Nantong by means of the student questionnaire,the teacher interview,stating the effects,deficiency and the causes of the cooperative learning in and out of class.The investigation shows that there are five major problems.Firstly,students have superficial awareness of cooperation due to lack of internal need and responsibility.Secondly,students don't have many cooperation skills for lack of teachers' guidance and relevant knowledge.Thirdly,teachers are not very good at organizing and controlling the cooperation owing to the lack of activeness and teaching wits.Fourthly,students don't have motivation to cooperate because there's no effective evaluation system or incentive mechanism.Finally,the extension of the cooperative learning out of class is not enough for short of enabling conditions and healthy platforms.According to the main problems found in the survey,the fourth part of the paper is about some practical strategies and suggestions on the cooperative learning in and out of class,combining with teaching cases.
