As a new mode of running higher education with Chinese characteristics,Self-taught Higher Education Examination is a useful supplement to the structure of higher education system.Being different from ordinary higher education,it provides an opportunity for different groups to receive higher education equally by virtue of the unique school-running form of promoting learning and teaching through exams.It has become an important form of education for the popularization and promotion of higher education in China.Hebei Province,as one of the pilot provinces for self-study exams in higher education,officially held the examination in the first half of 1984.The new form is regard as a catalyst of transforming the pressure of population into advantage of talents,because it cultivated a large number of professionals in different periods and provided the guarantee of talents for socialist modernization.At the approach of the new century,China entered the new era of economic transition and the Construction of Learning Society.The form and task of Self-taught Higher Education Examination in Hebei Province have undergone major adjustments.In order to make the form develop steadily and healthily,it urgently needs to implement Strategic transformation.Therefore,the author systematically sorts out the historical process of higher education self-study exam in Hebei Province and analyzes its development dilemma by relying on the theory of lifelong education and self-directed learning and using the methods of literature research,interviews,mathematical statistics and historical research,etc.And then the author tries to seek countermeasures from the government level,the examinee group level,the examination institution level and the social assistance level,and formulates feasible strategies for the healthy development of higher education self-study examination in Hebei Province.The paper mainly includes the following six parts.The first chapter is the introduction part,which mainly expounds the origin,purpose,significance,research status at home and abroad,research methods,technical routes,research emphasis,difficulties and innovations.The second chapter defines the concepts related to self-study exams in higher education and seeks the theoretical basis for the transformation and development of self-study exams in higher education.The third chapter explains the characteristics and functions of Self-taught Higher Education Examinations under the new situation.The fourth chapter systematically sorts out the history of higher education self-study exams in Hebei Province,and summarizes the development motivation of self-study exams from the three aspects of society,students and self-study exams,so as to pave the way for problem analysis.The fifth chapter points out the realistic problems existing in the self-taught higher education examination in Hebei Province at the government level,the examinee group level,the social assistance level,the examiner colleges level and so on through the in-depth processing of interview materials.The sixth chapter,aiming at the predicament in the development of self-taught higher education examination in Hebei Province,applies the theory of lifelong education and self-directed learning to promote its self-orientation.On the basis of defining its own orientation,it puts forward countermeasures and suggestions in the aspects of policies and regulations,examining institutions,social assistance and student groups,so as to promote the sustainable and healthy development of self-taught higher education examination in Hebei Province.Then it provides useful experience for the reform and innovation of self-taught higher education examination,and prospects its future trend.
