The illustrations of the textbooks are not only from the aesthetic needs for the textbook designing,but also play a vital role as a symbol as the text symbol in the textbooks.The illustrations and texts both are the parts of the Chinese textbook,but the part of illustrations carries the educational resources which cannot be conveyed by the part of texts.Between both sides of mainland and Taiwan,their cultures are of the same clan,and their mother languages are Chinese,too.Their Chinese textbooks both value the educating function of the illustration,so there are lots of similarities in the design and usage of illustrations.But since the educational concepts and teaching methods are different between them,the design and usage of illustrations in Chinese textbooks are different,too.This research is based on the Chinese textbook for junior high school in compulsory education of the mainland(hereinafter referred to as Official Edition)and the Chinese textbook for junior high school published by Kangxuan Press in Taiwan(hereinafter referred to as Kangxuan Edition).Comparing the study of this two representative editions of Chinese textbooks,it reveals the similarities and differences of the illustrations in cross-strait Chinese textbooks,deeply explores the educational resources in Chinese textbooks,and acquaints the importance of illustrations in cross-strait Chinese textbooks.This article consists of three chapters,which are summarized as follows:The first chapter is mainly about the status of illustrations between the two editions of the seventh-grade Chinese textbooks across the Taiwan strait,and it's elaborated on two aspects.He first aspect is about the development of illustrations in junior high schools in cross-strait Chinese textbooks;And the second aspect is about the setting of illustrations in the various systems of the seventh-grade Chinese textbooks.The comparative study in this chapter has found that the illustrations are very important in the two editions of junior high school Chinese textbooks,carrying different educational resources,and having auxiliary effects on the teaching for each system in the two editions of junior high school Chinese textbooks.The second chapter mainly compares the binding design for the illustrations of the seventh-grade Chinese textbooks across the Taiwan strait,including the density of illustrations,the position of illustrations,the length of illustrations and the types of illustrations.The statistical comparison study shows that there are similarities and differences in the binding design of the illustrations in the two editions of junior high school Chinese textbooks.The two editions of the Chinese textbooks both focus on the usage of small illustrations,and a variety of artistic forms of pictures;And at the same time,there are also some differences in the illustrations of the two editions of Chinese textbooks.For example,There are more Chinese painting illustrations with traditional cultural background in Official Edition,while more modern comics in the KangXuan Editon.The third chapter regards the illustrations that are in the seventh-grade Chinese textbooks across the Taiwan strait as an independent individual,and studies their own educational resources from two perspectives which are moral education and aesthetic education.This chapter has made a detailed study on moral education and aesthetic education from many aspects,such as patriotism,family and friendship,to compare the moral education function of the illustrations in the two editions of cross-strait Chinese textbooks;to compare the aesthetic education function of the illustrations from the artistic beauty,natural beauty and social beauty,which are in the two editions of cross-strait Chinese textbooks.
