The interaction and pervasion of disciplines have become important features of the development of modern science.Interdisciplinarity not only opens up a new way for the generation of knowledge but also drives innovation and productivity of social progress while promoting the prosperous development of science.Since the word ―interdisciplinary‖ came out for nearly a hundred years,interdisciplinary research and interdisciplinary education have always attracted much attention in the field of higher education,and the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents has also become an important goal in the strategic planning of higher education in various countries at present.Implementing the interdisciplinary programs of talents cultivation is an important way to carry out the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents.Throughout the world,the first-class research universities in the United States have more mature experience in interdisciplinary programs of talents cultivation.Among them,Princeton University is a model of success.This study focuses on the interdisciplinary programs of talents cultivation of Princeton University.This study mainly obtains a large amount of first-hand research information through the official website of Princeton University and conducts in-depth exploration and analysis of the interdisciplinary programs of talents cultivation at Princeton University by the methods of literature review and case study.This study firstly explores the path and successful experience of Princeton University by selecting the interdisciplinary programs of talents cultivation which cover undergraduate and graduate students,such as certificate programs,joint degree programs,interdepartmental programs,and some admitting degree programs.Subsequently,this study summarizes the characteristics of the interdisciplinary programs of talents cultivation of Princeton University from the training objective of cultivating interdisciplinary elites,the strict and scientific admission criteria,the integrated curriculum system of one,the student-based teaching model,the internal governance guarantee mechanism under the collaborative mode,and the diversified and perfect assessment mechanism.At last,based on the analysis of the predicament of the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents in China,this study proposes the implications and suggestions to promote the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents in China from the aspects of the concept of disciplinary development,the cross-departmental cooperation,the incentive mechanism of assessment,the curriculum system,and the teaching form.
