Extracurricular activities are an important part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and an important link to stimulate students' interest in learning Chinese.During my time as a volunteer Chinese teacher in Phimai which is the city of Thailand,the author organized various Chinese extracurricular activities for middle school students with elementary Chinese.When the theory of extracurricular activities is applied to practical teaching,the smooth development of activities not only requires the participation and cooperation of students,but also requires teachers to anticipate the factors affecting the organization of extracurricular activities and the problems and difficulties in activities.Chinese teachers can maximize the function of extracurricular activities by improving their foresight of the organization of extracurricular activities and arranging Chinese extracurricular activities more pertinently.This paper shows three typical extracurricular activities held by the author in the early,mid and final stages of his tenure in Phimaidumrong Wittayakhom Middle School,Thailand.This paper describes in detail the extracurricular activities carried out by the middle school through the elaboration,analysis and summary of the first-hand teaching materials.In order to provide cases for Chinese teaching,and through the method of comparison,this paper analyzes different types of extracurricular activities,summarizes the measures and methods of improving activities in the cases,and puts forward specific suggestions for the development of extracurricular activities in primary Chinese.The whole paper is divided into six parts.In the first part,starting with the reasons,background,significance and research methods of topic selection,the current situation of extracurricular activities in the field of second language,Chinese as a foreign language and Chinese teaching in Thailand is summarized.The second part introduces the general situation of Phimai County,the basic situation of PhimaiDumrong Middle School and the extracurricular activities of Chinese in the school.The third part mainly takes the Club-type extracurricular activities teaching cases before and after the improvement as samples.Starting from the specific design of activities,participants,organizational methods and the use of resources and media language,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the practical methods and improvement measures of such activities,and then makes a summary of the experience on the basis of the above.In the fourth part,starting from the contest content,candidates,time,process and results,through displaying two synchronized contest activities in the same period,the influencing factors and improvement measures and methods of contest extracurricular activities are analyzed in detail by means of cases.The fifth part presents a successful teaching case of comprehensive cultural activities,and carries out a detailed analysis of the specific implementation process of cultural activities,summarizing the specific measures and methods to carry out cultural extracurricular activities.Finally,according to the analysis of specific cases,this paper summarizes the problems and experiences in the organization and development of extracurricular activities of primary Chinese for Thailand middle school students.
