Innovation leads development and technology wins the future. In the context of the globalization of knowledge economy, countries around the world attach great importance to the construction of innovative countries.Enhancing the literacy of citizens and cultivating innovative talents have also become the important goal in education of all countries in the world. As a kind of education model for cultivating comprehensive talents in the future,STEAM education aims to develop students' practical ability, innovation ability and ability to comprehensively use multi-disciplinary knowledge to solve problems from a young age, which fully embodies the concept of quality education.Robot education with innovation, practicality and comprehensiveness can effectively cultivate students' innovative spirit, innovative consciousness and innovative abilities. Its educational value has been recognized by the society. Therefore,it is of great significance to carry out robot education in of basic education based on the STEAM theory.Combined with the literature research and based on theories including design thinking, computational thinking,project-based learning, connectivism, this study designs and forms the school-based robot course for primary schools according to the demand analysis of students,front-line teachers and school administrators. The course has been applied in practice whose goal is to improve students' interdisciplinary integration ability,to enable students to comprehensively solve problems with multidisciplinary knowledge,to promote students' practical and research ability,to develop their cooperative learning and innovation spirit.Through the design, development and application of the course,it aims to enrich the students' STEAM learning resources, expand STEAM learning approaches, and promote the development of STEAM education in primary schools. The 3D school-based robot course for primary schools in accordance with the STEAM theory includes Playing Innovative Robots-STEAM Education Practice School-based Course, online course learning website, video learning resources and course learning tool kits. The course design fully reflects the STEAM concept of interdisciplinary knowledge integration. The content is divided into projects and close to real life.It is reflected through problems. The curse uses the project-based learning to give full play to students' subjectivity.According to STEAM course teaching process,it instructs students to conduct active analyses and cooperative learning through observation, imagination, analysis, discussion, operation, sharing, expansion and evaluation. In the end,it uses the STEAM course evaluation strategy to evaluate the learning situation. The course also applies various learning materials such as online course learning websites and case micro videos to integrate classroom offline learning and online learning after class, providing students with a variety of learning channels to expand the learning time and space for students. The course also allows students to realize the personalized learning based on their own situations and improves their independent learning level, laying a foundation for the cultivation of lifelong learning ability. The design and development of the school-based robot course for primary schools based on the STEAM theory have been conducted for one year and two months. The course has been completed and applied in practice. There are three chapters in Playing Innovative Robots-STEAM Education Practice School-based Course, which are the primary, junior and senior innovative robot practice. There are ten lessons and eight cases. The cases originate from the actual life of the students and carry out the learning activities with the comprehensive use of multidisciplinary knowledge in problem solving as the main line;each case in the course has a corresponding case micro-video for students to master the case operating effects;the online course learning websites have structural function modules such as course study, work display, interactive communication, learning forum and news information, which can realize the functions like the online browsing of course contents, uploading and evaluation of students' works, online Q&A of teachers and students, sharing and exchange of learning experiences. The course is applied to the innovative robot club of Dongcheng Chaotian Experimental Primary School in Dongguan City for five weeks. The application results show that the course can basically meet the needs of students, teachers and the school. It can promote students to master the knowledge of robots and develop the production skills of robots. The design and development of the school-based robot course for primary schools based on the STEAM theory are feasible. The STEAM theory is integrated into the robot course, which effectively enhances students' interdisciplinary integration ability and helps them comprehensively use multidisciplinary knowledge to solve problems. It also fosters students' practical and research ability, the cooperative learning and innovation spirit. The school-based robot course for primary schools based on the STEAM theory in real situations is conducive to stimulating students' learning interest and enhancing their initiatives in learning. This study provides relatively complete materials for the STEAM school-based course construction in primary schools, which can help overcome the lack of course resources in the current STEAM education implementation process and provide reference for the STEAM course construction.
