In recent years,China's economy has developed rapidly, but the level of consumption is still far from that of foreign countries. The level of consumption has an important effect on economic growth, but China is in a state of insufficient consumption. On the one hand, the state has always advocated the integration of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,while the economy of Hebei Province is at a low level in this structure, and consumption is insufficient, and the final consumption rate is declining. With the development of society and the improvement of people's living standards, the consumption structure of Hebei Province is also constantly changing. On the other hand, from the family planning to the policy of two children alone to the full liberalization of the two-child policy, the age structure of the population is constantly changing.Nowadays, the population of Hebei Province is characterized by low birth rate and low mortality rate. The proportion of children in the population is declining, the proportion of the elderly population is rising, and the phenomenon of population aging is becoming more and more serious.People of different ages have different purchasing powers and preferences for consumer goods, which leads to changes in the age structure of the population, which ha-ve an impact on consumption levels and consumption structure, and ultimately affect economie development. The article uses the population and consumption data of Hebei Province from 1994 to 2016 to study the relationship between population age structure change, consumption level and consumption structure in Hebei Province. In addition, due to the dual structure characteristics of urban and rural areas, the article also analyzes the differences between urban and rural areas.Firstly, the descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze the age structure of residents in Hebei Province, the consumption level of residents and the current consumption structure of residents. Then, from the theoretical and empirical perspectives, the influence mechanism of population age structure on consumption in Hebei Province is studied. The concept of standard consumer is used to introduce the age structure indirectly into the consumption model, and the positive and negative effects of population age structure and consumption in Hebei Province are demonstrated. The association analysis method explains the relationship between age structure and consumption structure. Finally, the following conclusions are drawn:First, the impact of population age structure on household consumption level:per capita income, population age structure has a significant impact on household consumption;there is a negative correlation between the proportion of children and the elderly population and consumption. When the proportion of children and the elderly is increased, the increase in the level of consumption brought about by the increase in per capita income will be reduced, thereby suppressing the level of household consumption.Second,In the comparative study of urban and rural areas, the effect of age structure changes on consumption is greater in rural areas than in urban areas.Third, the impact of the age structure of the population on the consumption structure:the labor population has a greater impact on housing and clothing consumption expenditures;the children's population has a greater impact on education, culture, entertainment, daily necessities, and service consumption expenditures. The elderly population has health care and daily necessities.Services and transportation and communication consumer spending have the greatest impact,Three suggestions are put forward for the above conclusions, namely, improving the age structure of the population, increasing the employment population;reducing the urban-rural gap, strengthening the construction of new countryside;optimizing the structure of the consumer industry and increasing consumer demand.
