The rapid development of the intelligent era has brought greater opportunities and challenges to the education in China.It is an important mission and propositions for education to cultivate students' scientific literacy and make students become newcomers of the times who can adapt to and lead the future development.The latest primary school science curriculum standards promulgated in 2017 pointed out that cultivating students' scientific literacy is the overall goal of science education which should pay attention to the cultivation of students' inquiry abilities,and emphasize that students should learn from doing,and advocate interdisciplinary learning methods.Through the mutual integration of knowledge in four subjects,STEM education enables students to acquire knowledge and skills through independent inquiry,and cultivate students' ability in all aspects,so as to improve their scientific literacy.Through the survey about the current situation of the scientific literacy on high-grade students in primary schools,this paper figures out the advantages and the problems that primary school students have in scientific literacy,and based on this,this paper designs and implements the science curriculum activity called Parachute into which the educational idea of STEM is integrated.When the curriculum activity is over,the author of this paper conducts an analysis on the classroom activity,the evaluation scale of students as well as the interview result of students.After analysis,it finds out that when compared with the traditional method,the primary science teaching guided by the educational idea of STEM is enjoying great popularity among teachers and students.This kind of teaching method can improve the students' ability in various aspects,cultivate their scientific exploratory spirit and matter-of-fact scientific attitude,as a result of which,the scientific literacy of students can be greatly improved.Therefore,the combination of STEM education and the primary science teaching in this paper can provide some reference for the teaching of science teachers and a new idea for the cultivation of top-quality talents.Thispaper falls into seven parts.The first part is introduction,giving a detailed introduction to the background,purpose,content and method and other aspects of the research.Besides,the current situation of the study of STEM education at home and abroad is concluded based on relevant literature review.The second part talks about the theoretical foundation that this paper is based on,that is,multiple intelligence theory,constructivism and pragmatism,etc.Besides,based on certain understanding of STEM and scientific literacy,this part also describes the concept of this paper by reading literature.The third part is about questionnaire distribution as well as the detailed summary and analysis of the collected data.Besides,this part also carries a deep analysis on such aspects as scientific knowledge,scientific inquiry,scientific attitude,science,technology,society and environment,hoping to find out the current situation of the scientific literacy of grade-six students in primary school.What is more,this part also figures out the current existing advantages and defects of primary school students' scientific literacy,hoping to lay a foundation for the design and implementation of the teaching at the later stage.The fourth part mainly illustrates the design strategies for the science curriculum under the educational idea of STEM as well as expounds the reasons for the choice of such aspects as curriculum theme and content.What is more,this part also clarifies the principles that curriculum design should adhere to,such as enjoyable,experiential,situational and heuristic principles,and advocates diversified assessment methods.On the basis of aforementioned theories and the survey result,the fifth part designs and implements the primary school science course called Parachute under the educational idea of STEM according to the principles and strategies for curriculum design.Furthermore,this part also elaborates on the teaching process.The sixth part makes an observation on the teaching process,analyzes students' assessment form as well as has an interview with the target students.On the basis of these,this part concludes that the effective combination of the educational idea of STEM andprimary science teaching plays an important role in the cultivation of students' scientific literacy.The seventh part is the conclusion after analysis.It points out the strengths and defects in this research so as to keep track of the new direction for the future research.
